CIVIL ENGINEERING OTHER CLASSES

A brief description of the Civil Engineering mandatory other classes offered at McMaster University.

MATH 2Z03 ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS III

This class will teach students about first and second-order differential equations, Laplace transformation, and partial differential equations.

MATH 2ZZ3 ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS IV

This course will provide an overview of vector calculus, line and surface integrals together with integral theorems and Fourier series. Students will also wok on developing their Matlab skills and use them to solve a wide range of problems.

STATS 3J04 PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING

This course covers probability, random variables and probability distributions, joint probability distributions, data description, point, and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, linear regression, and analysis of variance. Furthermore, students in civil engineering will also cover Bayes Theorem, multinomial distribution, general functions of random variables, and moment gathering functions.

ENGINEER 4A03 SUSTAINABILITY AND ETHICS IN ENGINEERING*

This class covers the impact of triple bottom line thinking on the engineering profession, including economic, environmental, and social responsibility. Furthermore, this class also teaches students about the ethical and legal responsibilities of engineers, as well as the social control of technological change. Note that this class is not available to students in the society program.

ENGPHYS 3ES3 INTRODUCTION TO ENERGY SYSTEMS

This course focuses on energy systems with an emphasis on the analytical tools needed to evaluate them in terms of performance, resources and environmental sustainability, costs, and other relevant factors over their life cycle.
