MCMASTER SEISMIC DESIGN TEAM

The McMaster Seismic Design Team is an undergraduate student-led team focused on earthquake engineering. The team aims to compete in the annual EERI Seismic Design competition against universities from across the world. Teams are tasked with creating large, complex frame skyscraper prototype to be tested on a shake table simulating real earthquake ground motions. The team focuses on structural modelling using specialized software, as well as manufacturing and constructing an actual prototype using laser-cutting technology. There is a large focus in the design on architectural concepts, geotechnical applications, structural efficiencies, and economic sustainability. This provides McMaster students an opportunity to apply Physics, Civil, Mechanical, and Materials Engineering knowledge, while providing firsthand experience working in an interdisciplinary team.
